As a moveable and moldable venue, the ArtsCommons has already lived lives as a recording studio, art gallery, and an architectural experiment. Tell us your ideas. Tell us what you need. We'll get to work.
The ArtsCommons is more than shipping containers. It is an idea, a community resource, and a hub for civic engagement. Are you an artist? an organizer? an educator? a passionate citizen? Do you have an idea and need a space? The ArtsCommonsBoston can mold into what you need and integrate into the community you wish to reach.
Physical space: a free-standing, portable "art-maker's space" created from repurposed shipping containers, for performances, installations, improvisations.
Social space: a catalyst for civic engagement, uniting artists, the communities within which they seek to thrive, and the results of those collaborations.
Place: in the summer of 2016, BostonAPP/Lab developed an early version of the ArtsCommons as part of JP Porchfest. As part of our prep, we worked with and in JP's Mildred Hailey Apartments and its residents, aiming to plant seeds for a future ArtsCommons-related initiative. The video below was shot during one of our early visits to the site, and gives some idea of the energy and talent residing there!
The second video, taken during the ArtsCommons' presence at the 2017 Figment Festival on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, captures the spirit of engagement and collaboration central to the ArtsCommons. Let us know what you think!
